When told she was being honored by San Antonio Can! High School for her contributions to the San Antonio Community, Barbara Dreeben was reluctant to accept the award. Born and raised in San Antonio, Dreeben grew up during the post World War II era, admiring people that did for others and gave of themselves for the good of others. It took encouragement from her three daughters to sway her to say yes.
Dreeben received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the eight annual Motherhood Luncheon [May 18, 2011] for her years of humanitarian service and making a positive impact for the students at San Antonio Can! High School. "It's really about the school." she said during a phone call. "I realized that it was an opportunity to showcase what they do for kids in the community." Lisa Piland, luncheon chair, said the 21-member development council were honored to recognize Dreeben for volunteering her time to non-profits organizations.
Proceeds from the luncheon help the students with financial help, uniforms, school supplies, health needs and scholarships.
